Come, Lord Jesus - Utah Devotional (March 26)

Today is our last day in Cedar City. Last night, we sang, “Come, Lord Jesus, come.” And we didn’t just sing it—we prayed it. We prayed it because it reminds us why we’re here. We are here to prepare the way for Jesus—to cry out to Him and invite others to do the same. And that prayer comes straight from Revelation 22:20—John’s final words: “Come, Lord Jesus.” It’s a longing for the day when Jesus makes everything right—when peace, joy, and restoration are complete. And we long for that not just for ourselves, but for Cedar City, for our homes, and for the people we’ve met this week.

But we’re not just asking Jesus to come someday. We’re asking Him to come right now. Because the truth is: we are limited. We’ve had conversations, served, prayed, and shared the gospel… But only Jesus can change hearts. And as we leave, the mission here doesn’t end, but it continues through the people already planted in this city. So today, we pray: “Jesus, keep moving. Keep saving. Keep transforming.”

So as you step into this final day, here’s the question: Will you give it everything you have? Leave it all on the field. Hold nothing back. Walk away knowing you were fully obedient to what God asked of you. And yes, get yourself fired up. Not in your own strength but in the power of the Holy Spirit. Let there be something in you today that says, “I want people to know Jesus.”

But don’t miss this: You still desperately need Him. Before you speak, go to Jesus. Before you act, walk with Him. Don’t run ahead—follow your Good Shepherd. We don’t lead this mission. He does.

As we seek Jesus and pray that He will come, let me encourage you to pray for these five things in your own lives and the lives of those in Cedar City. They all start with an R (a pastor’s best friend—alliteration), and they provide insight into why we are praying that the invitation that Jesus offers would make his way into the hearts of those in Cedar City:

  • Reliance - Jesus, we place our full trust in You, not in our efforts or abilities. We ask that You would do what only You can—soften hearts, open eyes, and bring people from death to life. Even after we leave, we trust that You are still working, still pursuing, and still saving. We rely on You completely.

  • Reverence - Lord, remind us that this is Your work, not ours. Give us a deep awe for Your power and Your presence as we serve today. Help us to walk humbly, to speak carefully, and to trust fully in Your sovereignty. We honor You as the One who brings growth, while we simply remain faithful.

  • Repentance - Father, search our hearts and make us aware of anything that is not from You. Lead us to confess and turn from our sin so that we can walk in freedom and clarity. As we receive Your grace again today, help us to boldly and lovingly invite others to do the same.

  • Restoration - Jesus, we ask that You would restore what is broken in this city and in the lives of those we meet. Bring peace where there is anxiety, hope where there is despair, and freedom where there are chains. Let Your restoring power be seen not only in eternity, but in real, present transformation.

  • Revival - Holy Spirit, would You move in Cedar City in a way that only You can. Awaken hearts, stir hunger for You, and draw people into new life in Christ. Use every conversation, every act of service, and every step of obedience to spark something greater than we can see. We ask boldly for revival.

And here’s the truth we walk in today: Whether we see it or not… Whether it feels big or small… God is moving. So go boldly. Love deeply. Speak clearly. Serve joyfully. And as you do, keep praying: “Come, Lord Jesus, come.”

Suggested prayer:

Come, Lord Jesus, come! We can only ask in hope and reliance on you that you would do mighty things. Only you can change someone's heart into a heart of joyful repentance. Only you can restore all things. Only you can create a revival in Cedar City. Come, Lord Jesus, come!

Scripture:

  • Revelation 22:12-21

Questions to Ponder:

  • Group Questions

    • How can you choose to rely on the Lord for these things listed? What ways do you not trust the Lord to do the 5 R’s?

    • How does knowing that Jesus is coming back soon change how you minister to others in Cedar City? Back at home?
